Several publications are circulating fake news of appalling accidents on the ‘Madeira Occurrences’ page.
Readers are unknowingly being directed to malicious pages. This is because the scam features a link to a news story that takes them to ‘Público’, but it is a scam.
When you open it, you’ll receive the notification that your phone has been hacked, and then you’ll be prompted to install an app to protect your phone, this app has to be paid for.
A member of the group has already raised the alarm about this.
“Keep in mind that some members of this group are writing posts about accidents that haven’t happened. If you open the link in the comments, you will receive a message that your phone has been hacked.”
