‘Disturbing Disappearance’ of French Couple

Véronique and Laurent Blond, who were on holiday in Madeira, disappeared without a trace and the news of their disappearance has already been broadcasted in the French media.  As they had done before, the couple went out for a hike without their daughter on the 16th of March and never returned.

In France, the Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation for the “disturbing disappearance”, according to JM. Republican Lorrain published an article on Wednesday afternoon about the process and the investigation.

Véronique and Laurent Blond, aged 56 and 57, were on holiday in Madeira with their 27-year-old daughter Johanna. The couple, originally from Beaumont-de-Lomagne (Tarn-et-Garonne), went for a walk, leaving their daughter Johanna to rest at their local accommodation unit in São Vicente.

In France, the prosecutor of the Republic of Montauban, Bruno Sauvage, opened an investigation “for disturbing disappearance,” after being informed by the “Magistrate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Crisis and Support Centre.”

The searches in the Castelsarrasin district resulted in a “home visit” of the couple’s home in Beaumont-de-Lomagne. Nothing was found to suggest a deliberate disappearance, authorities said. From a technical point of view, “the various immediate telephone requests did not allow for either mobile phone to be located.” Said Bruno Sauvage.

Authorities are questioning whether it was an accident or a voluntary disappearance. So far, there is nothing to go on.

The newspaper reveals that their daughter, Johanna, is very active on social networks and warns tourists and hikers who may frequent the area.

She also said that her parents:

“Left with two bottles of water and a little bit of money. Usually, they never came back too late,” their daughter told TF1 Television on Monday.

In Beaumont-de-Lomagne, the daughter revealed to media outlet Republicain Lorrain that she is following the search, now from a distance.

“Even if they have died, we need this so that we can move forward. If anyone has an idea, let me know or the police,” she added in her latest Facebook post, which was updated on Wednesday. “I’m desperate and I just want to find my parents.”

Searches for the couple today were cancelled due to bad weather.
