Madeira an Electric Car Charging Haven

Funchal and Braga stand out as the cities with the most housing with garages, ideal for the installation of charging points for electric vehicles, while Castelo Branco has the lowest offer in this sense, according to a study published by idealista, the Real Estate Marketplace of Southern Europe.

According to the same analysis, more than half of the housing available in the Portuguese market (63%) does not have a parking space or garage, in which there is the possibility of installing these charging systems, thus making it difficult to access electric vehicles for daily use.

“However, the availability of chargers in Portuguese homes could vary depending on the districts and islands. The island of Madeira is where there is the largest number of houses with a garage where to install charging points, since 61% of the housing has a garage or parking space. This is followed by the districts of Porto (50%), Aveiro (49%), Braga (49%), Vila Real (40%), Faro (38%), Leira (34%), Viseu (33%), Viana do Castelo (32%) and Lisbon (31%).”

Évora, on the other hand, marks the opposite extreme, since only 15% of the houses have a garage or parking space. This is followed by the districts of Castelo Branco (16%), Beja (16%), Portalegre (18%), Bragança (25%), Santarém (26%), Coimbra (26%), Setúbal (27%), Guarda (29%) and São Miguel Island (29%).

Analysing by district capitals, idealista says that Funchal (63%), Braga (52%) and Aveiro (50%) lead the possibility of installing electric chargers for vehicles. For less than 50%, the cities of Vila Real (48%), Leiria (44%), Viseu (43%), Porto (40%), Faro (39%), Guarda (33%), Ponta Delgada (30%) and Coimbra (29%) are found.

Castelo Branco, on the other hand, only 13% of the houses have a garage or parking space. This is followed by Beja (16%), Portalegre (18%), Évora (18%), Bragança (23%), Setúbal (24%), Santarém (24%), Viana do Castelo (26%) and Lisbon (27%).
