Russian Ship Escorted in Madeiran Waters

For two days the Portuguese Navy monitored and accompanied a Russian scientific ship in Madeira’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

Commanded by Lieutenant Campos Cavaleiro, the NRP António Enes, with 58 crew members, began monitoring the ship on the morning of the 9th of February and ceased its surveillance operation late afternoon on the 10th.

A Naval statement was issued later, stating:

“Serving Portugal at sea, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, the Navy will continue to monitor and accompany the passage of this type of ship, as part of our permanent maritime duties under national sovereignty to ensure that no harmful activities are carried out against our country.”
