Reports of mobile phone fraud are skyrocketing, states a Judicial Police (PJ) source.
The majority of fraud is being carried out under the ‘Hello father, hello mother’ WhatsApp message, where parents receive messages from their ‘children,’ stating that they have money troubles and need immediate financial help. The message then directs the fraudee on how to transfer the money needed.
In January the PJ received 10 complaints, which they have added to the 88 registered in 2023 and 17 in 2022.
