Members from several parties, including the PSD, PAN, and 40 residents protested against the site of the new Petrol station in Quinta, Caniço this evening.
Orlano Ferreira, a resident of the area, told JM and Antena 1 that the residents will go to court against this installation. Although the Santa Cruz City Council will have told residents that the new petrol station fits all the safety parameters, its new site is only a road’s width from residential houses and apartment blocks on both sides.
Naturally, residents are worried due to its close proximity, and even more outraged by the fact that they are building the petrol station so quickly when the need for pedestrian crossings has been overlooked for years.
Residents have called the decision strange, especially, as it’s being sited on an odd piece of ground between two roads. Furthermore, the new petrol station is only a quarter of a mile from the main petrol station in Cancela.
