Mayor of Funchal Overnight Prison Stay

The Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado, was escorted to the Funchal Prison in Cancela this afternoon.

According to JM, the Mayor provided all the clarifications requested in the scope of the investigation but will remain in detention until he is heard by the investigating judge assigned to the investigation process.

According to information provided to JM, he arrived at Cancela shortly after 4 p.m., accompanied by three inspectors from the Judiciary Police, two of whom came from the mainland. He was placed in the transition area of the Prison, and it is expected that he will be transferred to the DIAP of the District of Lisbon sometime tomorrow. The transfer is the result of the fact that the process is being conducted in the Portuguese capital, as the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action and the Judiciary Police have already revealed in a statement.

It should be noted that throughout the day, several national media outlets also reported that two other businessmen would be under the purview of the investigation. CNN would put forward the name of Avelino Farinha. Later, SIC would add that Custódio Correia was also involved.

It should be noted that Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government, was also the target of searches and expressed his full availability to help the judicial authorities.
