The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) has confirmed that the classified walking routes will be closed tomorrow (16th of January), for safety reasons. During this time, Madeira will be under two severe weather warnings – yellow for rain and orange for wind.
In addition, the IFCN has added that “it is not advisable to circulate in mountainous and forest areas while the alerts are in force. Furthermore, the road that connects Eira do Serrado and Pico do Areeiro will also be closed.
The IFCN also warns that the competent authorities will intervene if the current safety rules are ignored.
