The Mayor of Funchal confidently stated that tonight’s market night will be a “remarkable night” and that all measures are in place to ensure that it’s a safe environment for everyone.
“We have centralised a lot of resources for tonight,” said the Mayor. “We have hundreds of people working during the night and early morning, in addition to security and emergency services personnel.
“We intend it to be a very remarkable night. Whether it will be the best or not, we will evaluate in the end, but we are very satisfied with the number of people gathered so far,” he stressed.
Pedro Calado highlighted the focus on safety and invited Madeirans to go down to downtown Funchal, reminding everyone that there are four thousand car parking spaces nearby.
“All the ingredients are in place for a very good popular atmosphere. We have guaranteed security, we have PSP, GNR, firefighters, and the Portuguese Red Cross. We have a security force spread throughout this area so that tonight can be a family affair.”
