Officers from the Funchal Maritime Police retrieved a decomposing body that was floating three nautical miles or 5.5 kilometers south of the Ponta de São Lourenço lighthouse in the eastern part of Madeira. The causes of the death are unknown, confirmed the Marítime Police.
According to the statement, the alert was received at about 13:30 from the crew of a sailboat who had seen the body floating in the water.
After being declared dead the body was transported to the morgue.
Further investigations will continue.
