For many, Madeira is becoming built up and crowded, and yet, in a small pocket within the island lies the town of Achada da Madeira.
Located in the parish of Boaventura, there is only one farm, four houses inhabited by a dozen people, and one eight-year-old child, Gabriel. The other houses are all empty. With six bus services a day (three in the morning and three later on in the afternoon), and despite the apparent isolation, many of those living there think it is the best place on earth.
