Fires: Hay Ordered For Cattle Farmers

With grazing at a minimum, the first containers of hay have already been sent to assist cattle farmers in Madeira; victims of the fires last month which ravaged the west of the island. The container’s arrival is scheduled for the 13th of November.

Currently, the protocol signed mentions four containers, but more will be sent, depending on the needs of the farmers.

Both the Agricultural Association of São Miguel (Azores) and Casa da Madeira in the Azores are involved in the aid programme. Officials have been brought to Madeira to inspect the delivery sites and to understand the needs of the cattle farmers.

The containers will be unloaded at the Prazeres Supply Market in Calheta and the Porto Moniz Zootechnical Station. The Funchal Agricultural Cooperative will be the receiving entity on the island of Madeira. The Sousa Group will handle the transport logistics.
