The Integrated Communications Centre of the Regional Command for Relief Operations (CROS) undertook an emergency call out as a tourist had fallen while walking the Levada do Alecrim.
Calheta Volunteer Firefighters were immediately sent to the area to locate and stabilise the victim; who needed to be airlifted to safety.
On arrival at the Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM, they were transported by the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters team to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
This was the 16th successful rescue operation by the helicopter team, and the 19th rescue mission so far this year.
