Funchal: Cat and Dog Rabies/De-Worming Schedule

The Funchal City Council is promoting the second medical prophylaxis campaign this year, for dogs and cats, over 3 months old, in all parishes of the municipality.

The campaign starts on Saturday, the 21st of October, in São Roque and Monte, at the schools of Lombo Segundo and Tanque, respectively.

26th of October – Sé.  At the headquarters of Causa Animal.

28th of October – Immaculate Heart of Mary and Santa Luzia at the Parish Council and the Civic Centre

4th of November – São Gonçalo and Santa Maria Maior.

11th of November – Santo António e São Pedro.

18th of November – São Martinho.

The Medical Prophylaxis campaign for dogs and cats, an initiative of the Municipality, in collaboration with the Parish Councils of the municipality, includes, free of charge for residents of Funchal, rabies vaccination (valid for 3 years), microchipping, registration in SIAC (Companion Animal Information System), internal deworming against roundworms and tapeworms, issuance of a health bulletin and, when applicable, licensing in the Parish Councils.

To be able to participate in the campaign, all dogs must be on a leash or functional muzzle, except for dogs of a potentially dangerous breed, which must be muzzled and kept on a lead of up to 1 metre. Cats must be carried in a suitable carrier.

All pet owners must present their citizen card, or identity card, taxpayer number, and pet documentation, where possible.

To participate in this campaign, it is necessary to register, in advance, at the Parish Council of the area of residence.  Registrations are limited.
