Yesterday morning, the body of a 60-year-old woman was found floating near the port of Funchal, confirmed the National Maritime Authority.
Both the Maritime Police and Judicial Police are investigating the situation after receiving a phone call at the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcentre (MRSC Funchal) from a German-flagged sailboat informing them that there was a body in the water.
After being pulled from the water, the woman was quickly transported to the port of Funchal, where she was declared dead by the attending coroner.
After forensic examinations by the Judicial Police, the body was later transported to the morgue.
