Registration for the new academic year of the Senior University of Funchal will take place between the 18th and 22nd of September between 09:30/12:00 and 14:30/16:00, in Azinhaga da Nazaré, São Martinho.
The Senior University of Funchal was the first Senior University of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, established in partnership with the University of Madeira. It began on the 16th of May 2007, with a ‘Free Initiation in Socio-Cultural Studies course’.
“This project has continued uninterruptedly, from that date, with the introduction of new pedagogical content and activities suggested by teachers and students, in the fulfillment of the following objectives: to provide a space for valuing senior people; encourage their active role in society, a meeting point for culture, learning, and conviviality, through the creation of cultural and educational activities, stimulate creativity, promote the exchange of knowledge between generations, contribute to the personal and social enrichment of the elderly, and maintain social relations within the community” quoted a spokesperson for the University.
Since 2009 the Senior University of Funchal has been a member of RUTIS (Network of Third Age Universities).
