16 Lives Saved Since January

Since January 2023, the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRP) Helicopter team, alongside other search and rescue personnel, has carried out thirteen search and rescue missions in Madeira’s mountainous regions. Most of these have been located in the Santana and São Vincente area, equating to a flying time of 9 hours and 36 minutes.

All those rescued have received “support from fire brigade teams,” who locate and stabilise the victims on the spot, and then if necessary request “aerial recovery support” for those in need.  They are then flown to the SRPC facilities in Cancela.

Injured victims are initially observed by an EMIR medical team and then transported by ambulance to hospital.

The press statement did not state the rescue conditions of the remaining three victims.
