At the airport, the CDU held a regional political initiative on subservience that explains why air travel between Madeira and the rest of the country continues to have high prices and the so-called mobility allowance has not yet been changed.
“It is exactly four years ago on the 19th of July 2019 that in the Assembly of the Republic, Law 105/2019 was unanimously approved, which amended the social mobility allowance, with a long-awaited improvement in the access of the populations residing in the region to travel at more affordable prices. But the law remains unenforced. Fruit of a ‘little arrangement’ between the PSD and the PS, and everything was postponed and remains unresolved.” States Edgar Silva.
According to Edgar Silva, “the PS and PSD surrendered to the arguments of economic groups, preventing the application of the Law that changed the current application of the mobility allowance, while giving into the airlines thus penalising the general population.”
