Mattel has launched its first Down Syndrome Barbie doll, better known as Trisomy 21, as part of its greater inclusivity initiative.
As previously reported in the Público newspaper, the new doll features a rounder face, almond eyes, smaller ears, and a flattened nasal bridge.
It should also be noted that the new Barbie also ‘uses’ an ankle support orthopedic appliance, in addition to a special necklace, comprising three arrows, which alludes to the third chromosome 21 held by all carriers.
The entertainment and toy-making company hopes the new Barbie will create greater diversity and inclusivity within the brand.
