The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Henrique Gouveia e Melo, categorically stated today that the latest incident aboard the NRP Mondego, which had to abort the mission in the Selvagens Islands, originated “from a human error” that the Navy is investigating.
“The only thing I can say is that the Navy does not lie, and that the last incident did not originate from mechanical or platform problems, it was human error.” Technically the ship ran out of fuel and had to be rescued. The question is, why wasn’t fuel from the nine onboard reserve tanks transferred into the main fuel tank?
