Despite warning signs, tourists and locals risk their lives to take a picture from the new Cranes Viewpoint (Miradouro do Guindaste) in Faial.
The viewpoint, which is already very popular with both tourists and residents, presents an interesting challenge for photographers and sightseers, but at a potential cost of life. As many ignore the signs and leave the glass platforms to walk along the escarpment, which without safety rails and uneven surfaces is hazardous. Yet many are ready to run the gauntlet believing that their life is worth less than a photograph.
