An announcement from the Palace of Bethlehem states that the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will decorate his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, with the Grand Cross of the Order of Freedom.
In a note posted on the Presidency’s website, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced the decoration of the President of Ukraine, admitting that he anticipated the announcement following a “parliamentary initiative on this matter.”
The President of the Republic intended to announce his decision to decorate President Zelensky on the 24th of this month, to mark a year since Russia’s catastrophic offensive against the Ukraine started. However, events pushed the announcement a little further forward.
