Human bones were found this morning in a stream in the parish of São Jorge, Santana.
Authorities suspect the bones may be those of 35-year-old French tourist Benoit Way, who disappeared last September while out walking.
Local news media outlet, JM, state that the Judicial Police was on site with a team of inspectors who collected the bones, which were immediately transported to the Medical-Legal and Forensic Office of Madeira.
Samples will now be sent for analysis and DNA sequencing at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.
