The court decision requiring the airport to pay IMI (Municipal Property Tax) in Santa Cruz has been divisive at best.
President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, and Regional Secretary for Finance, Rogério Gouveia, asked for clarification on the word “complex” and believe that they have grounds for an appeal. Eduardo Jesus blames the concessionaire company, who state they have to abide by a deliberation that sets a national precedent.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Santa Cruz, Filipe Sousa, has requested that the Government not appeal the decision as he has already earmarked the additional revenue; he aims to lower IMI and invest in local water network repairs, upgrades, and installations.
