Tomorrow, the 17th of November, the Centre for Atlantic History Studies – Alberto Vieira (CEHA-AV) will host a seminar titled ‘ ‘Photography, Cinema: The Arts of Colonialism,’ which will include an exhibition, discussion, and a documentary. The seminar will run from 11:00 to 19:00.
The event is organised by the Regional Secretariat of Tourism and Culture, through the Regional Directorate of the Archive and Library of Madeira / Centre for Studies of History of the Atlantic – Alberto Vieira (CEHA-AV), in partnership with the Faculty of Letters, University of Coimbra and EGEAC – Equipment Management And Cultural Animation Company (Lisbon).
The opening session will be attended by the Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, and the Director of the Discovery Pattern, Margarida Kol de Carvalho.
After viewing the exhibits the session will continue at 14:30 with a discussion on the ‘Arts of Colonialism: Photography, Cinema and Contemporary Art in the (Re)Critical Construction of History and Memory.’
The programme will culminate at 5 pm, with the screening of the film ‘Visions of the Empire’ (93′), commented by the director, Joana Pontes, and Miguel Bandeira Jerónimo.
