A tourist in her 70s was robbed at knifepoint in Câmara de Lobos yesterday.
The thief slashed the straps of her handbag and ran off with the contents avoiding being caught by the tourists and residents who came to her assistance.
The Public Security Police rapidly attended the scene, caught the thief, and retrieved her handbag, although the woman’s purse had been emptied of 200 euros.
Both tour operators and traders have complained that there are not enough police patrolling the lower half of the town and more needs to be done to eradicate the general populous’s feelings of insecurity.
