As part of the 11th Madeira Organ Festival, the Church of Our Lady of Light, in Ponta do Sol, will hold another organ concert tomorrow night, the 16th of October at 6 pm.
The event, organised by the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture, through the Regional Directorate of Culture, and directed by João Vaz, started yesterday, the 14th, and will run until the 23rd of October. The event comprises 11 concerts in 8 churches located within 3 municipalities.
Tomorrow’s concert named “Flowers of Music” will include organists João Vaz and André Ferreira and the ensemble Ars Lusitana under the direction of Isaac Alonso de Molina. In addition, the concert will include “Music in Hispanic Cathedrals,” with performances by organist Javier Artigas and wind instrumentalists Ministriles de Marsias.
The minstréis – wind instrumentalists – were responsible for much of the music practiced in the cathedrals of the Iberian Peninsula during the 16th and 17th centuries. This constant interconnection between the sacred and the mundane is well-known and beautifully orchestrated within the concert.
For those who cannot make tomorrow night’s concert, the performance will be repeated on Monday the 17th at 21:30 at the convent of Bom Jesus.
