Tourism Medals Awarded Tomorrow

As part of the World Tourism Day celebrations, the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, will be awarding 26 tourism medals in a ceremony to be held at 11:30 am, at Jardim da Quinta das Cruzes.

The presentation of these medals first began in 1979, and are in recognition of those who have distinguished themselves in the promotion and success of Madeiran tourism. There are three categories of medal, gold, silver and bronze which reflect an individuals contribution as notable and exceptional, valuable or relevant.

Gold medals will be awarded to Hotel do Carmo, Isabel Jesus Pereira Prioste (florist at the Lavradores market, the oldest in Madeira), José Escórcio da Silva (room manager in hotels and restaurants) and Manuel Pereira de Sousa (Municipal Band of Ribeira Brava), for their contribution to Madeiran Tourism.

Silver medals will be presented to: Aida da Silva Rodrigues Nunes (director at Savoy Gardens), Alexandra do Carmo Quintal de Freitas (director at Riu Palace), Amândio Maurílio Gonçalves (chef at Alecrim restaurant), Dunas – Travel and Tourism Agency. Lda., Hélder Gomes Valente (general director of Pestana Vacation Club), Jaime Rodrigues Cota Cruz (owner of the Lá do Fundo restaurant), João Carlos Almada (doorman at Belmond Reids Palace), João Manuel Teixeira Canada (disc jockey), José Eusébio Ramos Silva (bartenders at Nos Copos, several times national and Portuguese champion with the most presences in world championships), Lizuarte Gonçalves Rodrigues (operations director at Porto Santo Hotels), Maria Alexandra Guerra Rocha (sales director at Dorisol Hoteis) , Maria João da Silva Pestana França Dória (owner of the Newstravel Madeira agency), Maria Lídia de Freitas Laranja Martins (owner of the restaurant O Colmo), Teresa Maria Gonçalves (taxi driver).

And lastly, bronze medals will go to: Bar Number Two (by Elmano Reis), José Manuel Jaques da Mata (Nature Watcher), Leonardo Macedo Gouveia (MR Tours mountain guide), Luis Gaudêncio Fernandes (corner at DR Estradas), Manuel Heliodoro Sousa Silva (channel guard at EEM), Maria Paula Camacho Pestana (interpreter guide at Euromar), Olga Baeta Batista (from the Seed Bank of the Botanical Garden of Madeira) and Quinta dos Artists (by Christa Dornfield and Gerald Bretterbauer).
