The new Funchal tunnel, whose urgency has been talked about continuously, has finally been presented. Local media outlet, JM, were able to release a sketch of the proposed tunnel by graphic designer Lucy Martins, which will connect Campo da Barca and the new hospital, as well as areas in São Martinho, São Pedro and Santa Maria Maior.
The Regional Government itself concluded that there was a need to relieve traffic congestion at the entrances and exits of the expressway in several parishes in Funchal; a growing problem that is now creating havoc, as traffic jams especially during peak hours, are making road conditions hazardous.
