A 21-year-old man was beaten savagely in the head and left unconscious on Avenida do Mar, Funchal, early yesterday morning. The result, a police source told local paper, JM, of a verbal argument over racial issues.
It would appear that a group of youngsters approached the victim and verbally abused him, when he retorted they started punching him, causing injuries to one side of his head, including the temporal zone causing unconsciousness.
Luckily, passersby alerted the authorities, provided assistance and stayed with the victim until the emergency services and the police arrived.
The young man was then transported to A & E and kept under medical observation.
As one person remarked, this is not the Madeira we know!
