Price Query Leads to ARAE Investigation

The Regional Authority for Economic Activities (ARAE), inspected one of the stalls at the Mercado dos Lavradores, today, after receiving a complaint from a tourist, who, after buying fruit was horrified at the amount he was charged.

In response to the tourists complaint, Luís Miguel Rosa, Regional Inspector at ARAE explained that:

“We made inquiries at the Mercado dos Lavradores, more specifically at the stall where the tourist had bought the products. We proceeded with the weighing, as well as the verification of the price and we checked that everything including the price per kilo was identified and visible.”

Although this was a complaint that did not end up in any offence, Luís Miguel Rosa confirmed that the ARAE has received several complaints that essentially deal with the general increase in prices. However, “normally, these complaints are generic, that is, not a specific situation or a specific location, unlike this case.”

When visiting the market, if you are unsure of the price, please check before purchasing, as there have been problems in the past.
