A month after having achieved the highest score for a Madeiran table wine, in the American publication Wine Advocate, Porto Santo wines are once again making waves on the international scene. The renowned publication Jancis Robinson assigned historic scores to wines from the Listrão variety, from Porto Santo, with the best ever scores for a Madeiran wine and the highest score for a Portuguese white.
The highlighted wines were: 19/20 Listrão dos Prophets – Vinho da Corda 2020 and 17,5/20 Listrão dos Prophets 2020. These two wines are the result of the first adventure of winemaker António Maçanita and Madeiran Nuno Faria on the island of Porto Santo.
But it was not only in table wine that the Listrão variety shone, also Listrão Blandy’s 1977 scored 18/20.
The Listrão dos Prophets – Vinho da Corda 2020 was awarded highest score ever for a Madeiran wine in this publication, the most influential in the UK. It is also one of the highest scores ever for a white wine in Portugal, only matched by another label by winemaker António Maçanita, Vinha dos Utras 2019, from the island of Pico, in the Azores.
This international recognition began in February, with the release of Parker points, from one of the most reputable wine magazines in the world, Wine Advocate. On a scale of 100, two wines by António Maçanita in Porto Santo were scored, both made by the new company Companhia dos Prophets e Villões: 95 points for Listrão dos Prophets – Vinho da Corda 2020; and 94 points for Listrão dos Profetas 2020.
Also in Portugal, the Listrão variety has captured the attention of wine critics. Both Blandy’s Listrão 1977 and Listrão dos Prophets 2020 were both listed in the TOP 30 Best Wines of Revista de Vinhos.
