Miguel Albuquerque, the President of the Regional Government, reiterated today that the increase in hospitalisations, and the number of infected people in the region does not require any change to the current pandemic health and safety measures.
“Right now, the gravity of the situation and pathologies has nothing to do with what happened in the past. The population is protected, has a much higher degree of immunity and most people who have contracted Covid tend to suffer cold like symptoms. Some are hospitalised as a precaution, others have associated pathologies, but fortunately we have more than 90% are completely vaccinated. Furthermore, this scenario is perfectly normal considering we have eased a large proportion of the pandemic safety measures.
At the moment there is no justification for confinement or for people to wear masks outside again, however it is up to people to look after and protect themselves.”
However, the authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
So far this year, 99 people have died from Covid-19 complications.
