With snow and with hail falling on the lower regions of the island, it is no surprise that the Municipality of Câmara do Lobos had to close several roads to both cars and pedestrians. The roads affected are Estrada da Boca dos Namorados, Estrada da Corrida, north of the junction with Caminho do Poço da Corrida, Estrada José Avelino Pinto and Estrada Municipal da Partilha.
These roads will remain closed until 06:00 tomorrow, and will only reopen after a risk assessment has taken place.
The snow and hail also made driving conditions hazardous throughout the region with several people having to request assistance from the fire brigade or civil protection, while slippery conditions resulted in several accidents throughout the region.
The Toboggans at Monte also had to close today due to hail and unsafe conditions.
An orange weather warning will remain in effect until 3pm tomorrow afternoon due to adverse weather conditions.
