A bus and a cyclist were involved in an accident yesterday evening in Rua do Canto do Muro, causing massive injuries to the cyclist.
Both the Firefighters Sapadores of Funchal and the EMIR quickly attended the scene to assess the situation, and the young man was quickly transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça hospital, but local media outlets were unable to gain any information with regards to the man’s injuries.
Unfortunately, this evening a press release was issued stating that the 22-year-old had died from his injuries. The second death in less than 24 hours relating to a road traffic accident.
The young man was well known within the island’s cycling fraternity, and both AD Galomar Athlete, the Caniço branch, and the Madeira Cycling Association have already reached out to all those concerned and offered their condolences and sorrow at the tragic news.
