Last weekend, the organisation ‘Miss Madeira Queen,’ collected food, clothing and essential goods for the people of the Ukraine.
Kate Telesheva, a native of Ukraine living in Madeira, was invited to be present and talk about her home country with the group of finalists for the 2021 edition, and a small group of those registered for the 2022 competition.
The donations collected will be delivered to a transport company in the region, and then be transported to Lisbon where the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal has a platform to coordinate the aid provided, and try and help those who need it via humanitarian corridors and secure borders.
Next week, the organisation, which holds classes, tours and activities on Saturdays, will again organise a second collection of essential food and supplies.
Unfortunately, no details of how to contact them were disclosed.
However, for those interested, Saia da Mãe, located in Rua Q. Baixo in Funchal is also accepting donations of clothes, painkillers, first aid materials, bandages, sleeping bags, torches, batteries, socks and nappies and adult incontinent pants.
