Thunderstorms affected Porto Moniz last night, so much so that lightening struck a house in Santa, Porto Moniz. The strike caused a power outage, and set the house on fire.
The Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz received an emergency call at approximately 10:30 pm, and immediate dispatched two vehicles and crew to the scene.
Luckily the fire was brought under control, and despite the damage, no lives were lost, unlike the fire in an apartment on Rua do Comboio, in Funchal, earlier on this week, where firefighters discovered two dead cats in the wreckage.
With regard to the lightening, in a 200 km radius around Madeira and Porto Santo, the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea recorded 600 lightening strikes between dusk and midnight last night (28.1).
