Portuguese League Against Cancer Looking for Volunteers

The Madeira Regional Nucleus of the Portuguese League Against Cancer are looking to recruit new volunteers.

Their press statement reads as follows: –

“The Madeira Regional Nucleus of the Portuguese League Against Cancer is promoting a volunteer recruitment campaign, which will run until the end of February.

In the Portuguese League Against Cancer, volunteering represents the main instrument of humanisation in oncology, where the volunteer will be able to establish a direct contact with the patient and family.

The volunteer is, therefore, a source of valuable social support, as they offer support, comfort, conviviality, hope and models of “how to deal” with the difficult situation that patients and families are going through, especially in the provision of information and recommendations that can improve patient adherence to cancer treatment.

This recruitment of new volunteers is intended not only to continue this work around the reception of the patient and the provision of emotional, practical and informational support, but also to extend the activities to new municipalities.

All volunteers must be over 18 years old, attend the training course promoted by the NRM-LPCC, to be held in March, attend a motivational interview, attend an internship in the volunteering area where they were admitted and comply with the regulations and general principles of the volunteering for the Portuguese League Against Cancer.

Interested parties can fill out the application form available at https://www.ligacontracancro.pt/noticias/detalhe/url/nucleo-regional-da-madeira-da-lpcc-recruta-voluntarios/ “
