Due to the bad weather, several cargo ships are laying off the north coast of Madeira waiting for permission to dock at Porto do Caniçal. In light of the circumstances, the Funchal Port Authorities have authorised that these ships can moor in Funchal harbour. This is particularly important for cargo ship ‘Ponta do Sol,’ which is transporting cattle from the Azores, and whose food reserves are becoming critically low.
The ship’s captain has been given authorisation to dock after 20:00 this evening.
