The Madeira 2021 International Tournament started at 5 pm today, on the courts of the Galo Active gym, and includes players from eleven different countries including Colombia, United Kingdom, Austria, Ukraine and Egypt.
The event, which is part of the Professional Squash Association (PSA),Challenger Tour 10, has attracted, as always, both national and international sporting media coverage, which is seen as a positive reinforcement of the island’s desirability as a high level sports destination.
Today’s games have created a lot of interest, as due to the pandemic many of the younger players have not been able to compete, and therefore today, many of the junior players will be facing seeded and established players.
The main highlight today are the matches between the UK’s Sam Todd, and Spaniard Augusto Ortigosa, and Ukrainian Valeriy Fedoruk and Austrian Jakob Weggen.
