Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa Arrives in Madeira

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, arrived in Madeira this afternoon, on what has been described his longest visit to date.

His four day visit is scheduled to coincide with Portugal Day (10th of June), which is being hosted by Madeira this year, as well as a variety of official ceremonies and meetings, including attending the Occasional Commission for the Deepening of Autonomy and Reform of the Political System to discuss the analysis of the proposals presented in the scope of the Revision of the Finance Law for the Autonomous Regions. The hoisting of three blue flags at the Ponta Gorda Bathing Complex in Calheta, as well as officially presenting the former Madeiran President’s, Alberto João Jardim book, titled ‘Senhora da Ilha’ at the Madeira Press Museum in Câmara de Lobos.

Let’s hope the President of the Republic visit is not seen as such a waste of time as the Prime Minister of Portugal’s visit last Sunday, where he was described as arriving with a ‘handful of nothing!’
