Today a 53-year-old man was arrested by the Madeira Territorial Command, Criminal Investigation Division, in Santa Cruz, for the illegal possession of a weapon, after complaints from residents stated that shots had been fired from a public road. As such, the man’s house was searched, and in total two shotguns, a compressed air gun, 8 x 5.5 mm bullets and 254 pieces of ammunition for a variety of weapons, all of which were unlicenced were confiscated.
The detainee was presented at the Santa Cruz Judicial Court and will remain in custody.
Please note that anyone owning an unregistered firearm is guilty of illegal weapon possession.
