The cycle of ‘Never Forget’ project activities developed during April and May this year by the EFA Courses of the Basic School of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles of the Tower and the City Council of Câmara de Lobos, ends tomorrow, the 26th of May.
The closure of this initiative takes place in the Auditorium of the House of Culture of Câmara de Lobos, is a zoom conference titled “Teaching about Holocaust,” given by Esther Muczik, and attended by Câmara de Lobos, Councilor for Culture, Leonel Silva.
Esther Mucznik is the daughter of Polish parents, and has lived in Israel and Paris where she studied, Hebrew Language, Culture and Sociology at the Sorbonne. She is also a member of the board of the Israelite Community of Lisbon (CIL) and has been its vice-president since 2000. She is also the founder of the Portuguese Association of Jewish Studies, a member of its governing bodies, the coordinator of the Installation Committee of the Jewish Museum and member of Jewish Heritage Europe.
It should be noted that the project “Never Forget” aims to promote initiatives to honour, disseminate and develop the study and knowledge about the Holocaust, especially the role assumed by Portuguese people who supported victims of the Nazi regime, such as Sousa Mendes, as well as the Portuguese victims themselves.
This project will be taught in schools next year, using thematic exhibitions on the Holocaust, a seminar, teacher training as well as other initiatives which will be open to the whole community.
