Fining on The Sly

Public Security Police (PSP) officers have been accused of hiding as they operate speed camera’s along Madeira’s main arterial roads.  Apparently, they have been detected standing on overpasses, behind pillars and even in bushes, waiting to catch unwary and speeding drivers on camera.

When questioned by JM about the legality of such operations, the Regional Police Command confirmed that officers are working within the law, but said that he would prefer them to be more visible, but that this was not always possible.  Furthermore, it was up to the officers on patrol to decide where they set up their speed camera’s.
