The PSD Parliamentary Group has stressed, that the governments financial investment in the new sports park in Prazeres will include an in-line speed skating rink.
PSD Deputy, Nuno Maciel, confirmed that the infrastructure should be completed and open by the end of this summer. The sports complex which will house the island’s second in-line speed skating rink will allow athletes and regional clubs a second alternative to the one in Faial. It is also hoped, that the provision of a second rink will raise the island’s international speed skating profile.
Nuno Maciel further announced that from a technical point of view the new track is more sophisticated as it allows skaters to skate and turn with greater speed.
The projected cost of the new sports centre is said to be in the region of 600 thousand euros.
