Heaviest Downpour Since 1956

19.1 litres of rain per square metre fell in Chão do Areerio between 19:00 and 19:10 last night.  The rainfall is one of the heaviest downpours recorded on the island since the 22nd of February 1956, where approximately 40 litres of rain fell per square metre in Funchal.

Due to the bad weather the municipality of Santa Cruz has decided to turn off its Christmas lights until Thursday the 3rd of December for safety reasons.
