As of the 19th of October, the second phase of the flu vaccination campaign in the Autonomous Region of Madeira will take place. This year, the Regional Government has purchased 56 thousand vaccines as part of a drive , an investment in the order of 460 thousand euros and an increase of 40% in relation to last year as part of a drive to ensure that a higher proportion of the island’s population is vaccinated against influenza.
Flu vaccines are free and available at your local health centre. All you need to do is pop in and have your flu jab. However, it is important to emphasise that this campaign is for the chronically ill and those aged 65 and over. The goal is to vaccinate as many vulnerable and at risk people as possible.
The first phase of the campaign started on the 28th of September, were flu jabs were given to health professionals, those working in the civil protection units and pregnant women.
In a statement, the health authorities have said that with the pandemic they want as many people as possible to be vaccinated against influenza, and that the local health centres will have teams working flexible hours to ensure that as many people as possible take advantage of the treatment.
