Within the scope of the regular operational activity carried out by the Regional Public Security Police (PSP), the Funchal Police Division has increased the number of patrols throughout the city of Funchal, with particular focus on the Jardim Municipal area. Their aim is to increase their visibility on the capitals streets which, they believe, will alleviate the underlying level of fear that is affecting many of the island’s population. This increase in their presence has already led to the identification of five citizens for being in places usually associated with drug trafficking and consumption, one citizen for selling narcotic substances, and one citizen for theft.
According to a police source, the new measures have led to the arrest of a male who has been charged with 50 offences against public and private property.
