President of Portugal Enjoys Porto Santo

On this arrival to Porto Santo, and while waiting for a taxi, the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, told journalists that all he wanted to do was enjoy the ‘beach and lambecas’ (icecream), and hoped that his visit would help promote the island as a ‘vacation paradise.’

The President of the Republic also took the time to state that he believes that masks should be worn at all times, thus publicly supporting the Regional Government’s new mandatory mask wearing rule.

While enjoying his mini-break, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was seen taking selfies on the beach, swimming, enjoying and making the odd poncha, and of course eating his first Berlim (cream doughnut) in twenty years.  All in all he appeared to be having a good time.

The President lived in Porto Santo in the 1960’s, a time of great poverty, he later told reporters.
