The Navy, in conjunction with the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue coordination sub-centre, the captain of the Port of Funchal and the Regional Civil Protection Service, this morning rescued a crew member from a fishing vessel located 8 nautical miles south of Câmara de Lobos. According to the Navy the victim, a 57-year-old man, had deep cuts to his face made by a hook.
The alert was received at MRSC Funchal at 06:35 and a lifeboat from the Funchal Rescue Station was launched immediately. On his arrival at 08:05 at the port of Câmara de Lobos, he was immediately taken by ambulance to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for treatment.
